This is why I wanted to move to another culture

Australia day...wow! Why don' we have an UK day back home? The atmosphere was amazing here. The best bit had to be the Sydney Ferry Race - all the state owned ferries have a race to see which is fastest! Could you imagine something like that in England? Didn't think so! In England, somebody would point out that the ferry with the best power to weight ratio will win every year and therefore it is a pointless exercise.

No, the ferry race would never happen here in blighty because someone would mutter the words Health & Safety and bureaucracy would take over.

Not to mention the union workers on the ships would want double time and a half for working on a bank holiday. All the loosing ferry's crews would go on strike because of their "bad working conditions" on "substandard ferries". The winning ferry's crew would go on strike as they'd want more pay since they were the "premier" ferry.

Of course the ultimate reason if wouldn't happen over here is that most ferries go to France. Who cares if you can get there 60 seconds faster. It's still France.

Hmmm, who are you?

You sounds like my friend Robert, but you're not him as he's not "back in Blighty" and despite England's famous over unionised workers, he knows they are not a patch on public sector workers here in Sydney who would give even French air traffic controllers a run for their money!

I'm guessing you're from the Wes family....

Oh no, you'll have to guess harder than that.
