Two great discoveries

Last week I was fortunate enough to watch two films that I had missed at the cinema when they first came out but always wanted to see. The first is 'Napoleon Dynamite'. The film in itself is a very strange concept as it is purely about a few days in the life of a totally weird schoolboy with a story that would be unlikely to make it as the plot of a children’s novel let alone a major movie. But it works. It does more than work, it's AMAZING. The first time I watched the film I had a huge grin across my face for the entirety but I rarely actually laughed out loud. As soon as I had finished, I poured myself a pint of coke, opened a packet of Thai Sweet Chilli crisp (still my favourite) and sat down for the commencement of sequential viewing number 2. This time I nearly wet myself laughing.

Film Synopsis: Critical Geek Mass is exceeded beyond anything we ever thought possible. But he has one thing that will win him the respect of his peers.... he can dance like Nurton! Check this out. [I recommend watching to it with the tune of 'Satisfaction' or even more fun is 'Time to Party' which shows that this little flash program actually matches his dancing to the beat of the tune you choose, which I think is really clever!]

If you haven't seen the film yet and are wondering why I love this film so much then consider the following questions:

- Have you ever said something along the lines of "a Freaking 12 gauge! What do you think!" in reply to a bully's taunts?
- Did you ever dream of being or knowing the only boy in school to have a moustache?
- Do you have to placate your friend's jealousy by saying things along the line of "Don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day".
- And finally, most importantly... "Have you ever heard of nylon polymer?"

If you answer yes to all or most of the above questions you WILL love this film. BUY IT.

The second film I bought on DVD this week was 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. This film is funny, very funny. I've written too much about the first film so I won't say anymore about this, other than I love the bit at the end where it says what 'Brick' goes on to do as a future job. Priceless.

Film Synopsis: "Women's brains are a third the size of men's. It's science"

If you've seen either of these two films and agree that they are great, comment and share the wealth of quotes. These films deserve to be praised.

I alternated between laughing and cringing at ND. As a high school teacher, I see a few too many Napoleans on a daily basis.

You have to enjoy cringing, to enjoy ND!
