What I did last night

Last night I went to the cinema with some friends to watch the 'Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy'. I wasn't expecting much as I had read a review for the film on the BBC news website (which I trust implicitly on all issues of global importance, such as this), which said that the film was OK at best.

Well I was pleasantly surprised. The film was entertaining and I spent most of it giggling like a school girl (except for the 10 minutes that I tried to convinced myself that I didn't need to go for a wee despite having two pints of cider before entering the cinema. I hope I didn't miss a good bit!). Although I must admit that it wasn't really a patch on the book. It has been a while since I read the book and from what I can remember of the characters in the book, they differ a lot in the film. Also the introduction of a romance story line was an unwanted addition although I didn't feel that it ruined the picture.

Marvin was my favourite character in the books but although being superbly voiced in the film his lines lacked the laugh out loud hilarity of Douglas Adams books. The best two things about the new films are Zaphod (far more crazy than I remember in the books) and the Vogons (spelling?) who are just so funny (I find nothing in the world entertains me more than stupidity), especially at the end. Go and see it if you want to be entertained and don't mind if it doesn't follow the book word for word.
