Help old people. It's always good fun

This is a true story. The only reason I am writing about it is to try and delude you into believing I am a perfect person.....

On Saturday, I was heading back from the shops after picking up my copy of The Times and just casually wandering along dreaming of doing the Su Doku without a worry in the world. I walked past this old guy (80+) who was trying to get something out of the boot of his Honda (why do ALL old people drive Honda's, do they come with free entry to heaven vouchers?). As the 'something' in question was a 25kg "party pack" sack of compost for his garden and it was obvious the old guy might die and make a mess on the pavement trying to lift it, I stopped and introduced myself. He seemed a little taken aback, but after I explained that I would like to help him seemed only too pleased to let me into his home (Note: If you are a conman: Target OLD PEOPLE!). Anyway, I carried the bag through his house (standard old person smell and brown flowery wallpaper) and deposited it in his garden shed. From the looks of his back garden and green house he had watched 'Little Shop of Horrors' too many times as all he seemed to be growing was various types of carnivorous plants (1000's of them!).

As we walked back out onto the street I explained to him that I was only doing this to prove that not all young people are evil thugs. He thanked me and said he knew two other young people (his grandchildren) who he declared to also be decent people. He told me that his grand daughter was leaving next month to go and work in Melbourne. When I told him that I also was going to be going there in the New Year, he said "oh, in that case you'll meet her" in a totally serious tone. Seems his family have told him that Melbourne is a small village and also that it is only a "7 hours flight away". I love the lies people tell old people so they don't die of worry.

Hey, ya done good for young people around the world... nice gesture! I laughed when I read about his wallpaper. Gramps'll never know he's on a blog now, serving up laughs as a funny old-person story.

Ah, old people. What can I say, they are an untapped source of comedy potential!
