A film and my new toy
This morning I went my local Picturehouse cinema to see the film The Jacket with some friends. It was a free preview run by the Times Newspaper, which meant it was ideal for students. The film was entertaining and although being a terror thriller had a few laugh out load funny bits in the middle (whether or not you were supposed to laugh at people in a mental hospital, I wasn't sure, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt). It is worth seeing, but there are certainly better films on at the moment. I came home and watched the Grand Prix which was far more entertaining. This season has really been the one where F1 has become interesting again. Now I really do curse (loudly) at the TV each time the adverts come on. My predictions are that either Kimi or Schumacher will win, with Alonso in third. If you know anything about F1 you will disagree, so what, I don't care.
Also worthy of mention this week is my new toy. I went to the O2 shop on Tuesday and gave them some sob story about my old phone not working properly (well it did break once when I dropped it while I was pissed). They agreed to let me have a free upgrade phone early, so I got myself a new phone. I had to pay an additional £30 but I think it was worth it. Here is my new yuppie device (Sony Ericsson S700i).....

The phone, although not 3G, is designed to be a proper camera as well as a phone, from the photo below you can see that it actually looks like a camera from the back. It has 1.3 Mega-Pixels which is good enough for a 1280x1024 picture, which although being nowhere near as good as my proper camera provides a decent enough image for taking snaps of friends in pubs. It is actually possible to make out who they are and what they are doing, which makes it a big step forward from the last generation of phone cameras. This one even comes with a built in camera "light" which will probably be rather useless, but is one step nearer to a real flash which is what these devices really need to be useful in the dark gloomy environments, such as pubs and clubs where they are normally used.

When demonstrating the camera to me the kind lady in the shop let me take a picture of her. She seemed a little shy, little did she know that 5 days later she would become world famous by having her photo paraded on this website....

The other cool things about the phone are that it has the most amazing screen (the best LCD I have ever seen) and a built in MP3 player which means that I can download songs from my PC over bluetooth onto the memory stick (same as my camera) in the phone and listen to them as I walk places. Cool
It is a bit bigger than my old phone, but I think I can forgive that for the amount of new features that it gives me.
What I really wanted was the Sony V800 phone, but only Vodaphone offer it at the moment on 3G. Why would I want 3G? The reason I phone people is so I don't have to look at them, most of the time I don't even want to speak to them, so I just text. The phone industry just doesn't "get" it!
