Everything is tickety-boo
Today has been unusually productive and positive. By 10am I was up and out of the house (I know, I was surprised to discover the sun was up at this early hour too!) and on my way to campus. Did the fiendish Su Doku in 4mins and 32 seconds (not a record, but not bad). Did some work, learnt something about the compiler design (specifically (if you are interested) semantic analysis and intermediate code generation) then got a text from Kat (who was sitting two desk down) enquiring about the possibility of lunch at midday. I'm a greedy bastard at the best of times, but today I was bloody hungry as my breakfast had been 'on the road' on the way up to campus and consisted of 5 jelly babies (3 red, two green) so I agreed post-haste. I suggested we risked our health and tried eating in the students union canteen, a place normally only frequented by cheapo first year students who want to squeeze every last penny from their lunch vouchers. I was brave and opted for the honey roasted chicken stuff on rice. When I enquired about the possibility of vegetables the lady serving me looked a little shocked, but eventually cracked under further interrogation and admitted the residency of some carrots at the other end of the counter. She did warn me three times that they would be "extra" and asked "was I sure?". If all dinner ladies are like this then I can understand why all the kids today are growing up to look like a cross between a mini-Nurton and a bowling ball. The chicken turned out to be the nicest meal I have tasted this year, so hats off to the Exeter university chef! Bravo. The carrots were a bit tasteless though.
In the afternoon we went back to the library where I had a little knap then did lots of learning about sequence alignment techniques for DNA fragments. We stopped again at 6 for a quick dinner in the Ram bar and spent the entire time talking like this:
"Still got another 3 hours work to do"
"Better not have a beer then"
"No better not"
"All I am thinking about is beer
"Still got another 3 hours work to do"......
But we were strong and held out. Until 8pm anyway then we headed off to the Vic where we bumped into my mate Rich from the second year who we beat at pool (mostly Kat's amazing skill!), had a beer and headed home.
I topped the evening off with some excellent Friday night TV and have just been to the 24hrs Tesco’s to get some "Friday night snacks";
- One large block of cheese
- 3 large bags of Thai Sweet Chilli crisp (they were on a 3 for 2 offer, I'm not going to eat 1 bags worth tonight, let alone 3 bags. Although I bet having 3 bags would be amazing!?!)
The checkout lady seemed a little concerned about my diet but I assured her that our house was over stocked with "healthy food" and that I was just out to get some "essentials".
The only thing to go wrong today was when I tried to fill my car up with petrol the petrol filler cap would not open. Grrrrr. Have since read on a website a way to bypass the standard operation mechanism so I should be able to get home tomorrow.
My blog piece which I was writing yesterday, I have still not finished, although I might get a chance over the weekend. Something for you all to look forward to....

I'm glad you had a good lunch. Honey-roasted chicken, nicely done. There are many unfounded and slanderous rumors about English food here in the colonies.
There are many slanderous rumours in talked about in English food restaurants about the colonies.
"The only thing to go wrong today was when I tried to fill my car up with petrol the petrol filler cap would not open."
Are you sure it's not Italian? You seem to have more random maladies than I do!
I found out the other day that my fuel filler cap has an extra release somewhere inside the boot. Or you just break the cap, if the boot release fails at the same time.
Hopefully, they're not talking about Mary Kay Letourneau. We're embarrassed about that.
My favorite food from there: shepperd's pie (mmmm-mm) and Cadbury candy bars. Not the kind we have in our stores but the really hard-to-find Cadbury's. Only found at English specialty shops. Yummy... load up the car!
Candy is something that comes on sticks. Cadbury's only sell "chocolate" bars.
Matt - No, it's defo not Italian, although it is red, so maybe it thinks it is a Fezza? I drive it like one sometimes!!!!
My brother (the one with the old age fingers that make it a torture to type) sent me an email before I had even woken this morning with detailed (numbered) instructions on how to bypass the problem. Cheers Brother!
Filled up with petrol and enjoyed thrashing these new fangled (think they are fast) diesel cars away from the lights! I have one word for diesel drivers (it may seem strange to them)....."6000rpm" Ha ha ha ha!!!!
Mmmmm. I'd give my right arm for a Cadbury Flake right now.
Must go wipe away drool.
I've recently converted to Galaxy - does that make me a bit gay?
No more than you were before.
>>> Cadbury's only sell "chocolate" bars.
The Flake bar. That's the one Kris... yummy. I could find those only in the northern regions... had I known...
Nurton, what about the chocolate eggs that break open. We have those here. Liquid caramel? I do prefer the softness of Cadbury chocolate over a Hershey's. In the world of cocoa, Godiva chocolate is beautiful to give... but doesn't match See's (out here) for flavor.
Sorry... now returning you to your regular thread. (Mention food and all hell breaks loose!)
We have chocolates eggs (huge ones) that break open, but unfortunately the inside is empty. We only get these at Easter.
I am half swiss. In Switzerland the chocolate is infinately better than here. Try and find some Swiss chocolate (Lindt is a good place to start)!
