World beats stops dissertation progress
Yesterday, like any other Sunday evening I headed down to the Bowling Green pub to take part in the quiz with my mates. We thought that maybe we have a better chance of winning this week as now term has finished there were likely to be less students. Unfortunately the following things went wrong:
- We didn't know many answers
- As none of us had had much to do over the past weekend we were bored and went down early, which resulted in us starting to drink earlier than normal. As non of us had lectures the next day we all drank maybe a little less cautiously than normal.
- My mate James, whom I had invited to come and join our team, decided to form his own rival team. The only reason I could see for this treason was that he wanted to take revenge for the whipping he received at squash on Friday. (He succeeded as his team came 3rd and won two bottle of wine. But they probably cheated)
Two good things did happen to me though. Firstly for the first time in the entire year I made a random guess at an answer, (convincing the others that I knew what I was talking about) and by amazing fluke got it right. Also, our team won best team name, which as I devised it won me a bottle of wine.
As we were all on the way to being fairly trollied, instead of going home to our beds we decided to head onto the only club open on a Sunday night. A place called, Timepiece which has a "World Beats" night. Although 99% of the music I had never heard before, I still felt compelled to dance like a nutter, although I sat out through some of the more extreme North African tracks as I wasn't sure whether or not the new terror laws made me a terrorist if I danced to these. Discovery for the evening, was that when they played "Galvanise" by the Chemical Brothers at ear drum ripping volume, it is actually an AMAZING dance tune, one of the best this year!
Got home and after trying to type a comment into somebody else's blog fell asleep at my keyboard about 3am. Hence this morning I woke only at 11am, although the 'beer winch' had lowered me into my bed by this point.
My plan for this week was to start working on my dissertation full time, starting at 9.30am every morning. I felt as I had missed the start today, I took the rest of the day off as a precaution. I spent the rest of the morning inserting water into my brain as my head felt like the inside of a parrots cage. Had to pick something up in town, so took the opportunity to visit Virgin and purchased a collection of DVD's and that took care of work for the rest of the day. I will resume tomorrow!
I also found Black Grapes; Stupid, Stupid, Stupid album for £4 which is such a bargain for such a great record. Also I have discovered that now I have the house to myself there is no need to get dressed, I can roam free with the bare minimum of clothes just to protect against unwanted drafts or a surprise visit from our landlady. Ah, Nick Harry, if you are reading this, you might want to give me warning before coming back!
A quick thankyou to those of you who have been commenting lately. An increase in comments always brings a smile to my face, keep up the good work and I will endeavor to reply to all comments. Please can I remind everybody that the COMPETITION is still open. Please help name the cactus.
Lastly, I had promised that at the end of term I would remove the TFF (Twatish Facial Fuzz). I had a little ceremony tonight and duly removed it. Was a very sad moment. I don't like my new look. It makes me look younger, my face less long, my mouth smaller and in generally like a different person. Sob.
