Resolutions and Endeavours
Way back on the 1st January this year I decided to pen a list of ten resolutions and endeavours. Needless to say, I have already categorically failed two:
- Stop swearing. Unfortuanately I think too many people are "twats" and can't help voicing myself. Also, I just say "feck" and "bollocks" a lot. Whoops.
- Stop chewing pen lids. Although I have failed this (I chewed a pen on my birthday, the 3rd Jan!), I have stopped chewing pens I borrow from other people. A large victory for anybody who knows me and lends me pens on a regular basis.
7 of the others I am well on my way to failing. I won't list them here as I can't be bothered but I will post any more that I manage to fail or succeed in.
Anyway, why am I telling you this... well the 10th endeavour was,
Strive to be nice
and this has been a semi-sucess. For example on Thursday after the BBB incident, I was in a pretty bad mood. I went straight from uni into town to get my afro removed in preparation for the hot weather we are experiencing now. I went to my favourite barbers shop. Normally I get one of the two gay(very) guys who work there, who always either try to chat me up (I find it is encouraging that I am attractive to at least one sex on this planet, even if it's not my first choice) or make small talk about the weather. I hate small talk and normally just grunt and stare at myself in the mirror until the hair cut is complete or I feel the need to warn them that my ears are very near to their scissor and that they may want to take extra care. So, I walked into the barber shop still fuming from the BBB episode. But to my surprise I get a women barber (or is it a barberess?) who I proceed to talk to for the entire duration and I didn't have to mention the importance of my ears once.
Well I'm sure that this does not seem like such a big deal to most people and to be honest it isn't, but this positive and Dick Van Dyke style to my personality has been with me ever since that day. Even today I spent half an hour walking around Sainsburys with a huge smile accross my face, which surprisingly seemed to draw in a worried experession from other shoppers and shop staff alike. Hey ho, they don't know what they are missing out on!
Sorry, this has been a bit of a random post. Today the other members of my house have gone home and I am left home alone. I have spent the day listening to my new 'The Coral' album which is good, completing the Su- Doku from yesterdays Times and reading a book called 'Not the end of the world' by Christopher Brookmyre. I am currently listening to 'Baggy Trousers' by Madness in the hope that party music will quell my lonelyness.
I have also been playing the superb Neighbours game.....
