Competition Time!
This weeks 'Nurton Meets World' competition is......
"To name a Cactus"
Our(well mainly 'my') new house cactus is still without a name. The person who suggests the best name will win a.... er.... ah.....um.... a signed photo of the plant.
I would post a photo of the cactus here to help you decided it's personality but this would make the prize not quite so special and also my camera is in France. I can describe it as:
- Green
- About 6 inchs tall
- About 5 inchs wide
- Lots of leaves (is this what they are called. Kinda green round things with very little soft spikes)
- Lots of these "leaves" have red flower buds on the end
- Tesco's call it an 'Easter Cactus' although I doubt this is its proper Latin name.
Good Luck

Excellent, we have our first entrant! Keep 'em coming.
PS: In the past I have named my plants after characters from the magic roundabout.
Ok, just had one of those "light bulbs above my head" moments. I think I wasn't quite awake at 9.42am. I now GET the Milligan pun. Very clever! Have a sweety! (lol)

Halloo, nurton!
High five to you from America. I'm glad you liked the post but I would highly recommend against trying the high five on any date, even in the UK.
Naming a normal cactus would be much easier. Something like "Pokey" or "Stabby". Maybe "Pierce". So, I had to do a little research on your Easter Cactus - aka Shipsalidopsis Gaertneri. How about "Shippy"? Or "Sally"? Or "Dopey"?
How many entries are you allowing from one person? And do I have to live in the UK to win?
Hi, Thanks for entering the competition! This is the kind of international response that I was hoping for!!! Excellent! Super! Smashing!
So far your suggestion is certainly in the top three. I will give you extra marks for the research you conducted. Good work!
There is certainly NO LIMIT to the number of entries allowed, in fact the more the better. At the end of the day it is all about giving the Cactus the most suitable name, so it is happy in life.
I am happy to ship the prize to whatever country the winner is from. I think it is the least I can do.
Thanks for the advise concerning the dating technique. I will steer clear of that one! Any better suggestions? I gather (from your blog) smiling is now not a good thing?!? Is that what I have been doing wrong?
(Competition Rule 1.4.2 - Anybody from any country can enter except those listed in the US's "Axis of evil" as currently in the UK it is very easy to be put in prison for ever and ever if the home secetary thinks you smell like a terrorist)
Uh oh. Scanning memory...scanning memory. What have I written with regard to smiling?
I am a fan of the smile. All toothy and such. Not such a fan of the gummy smile. You know, all gums and tiny teeth? No good.
Hello person from Guatemala. Great to have another international response. I as I have said earlier "I will ship the prize to the country of the winner". As long as Guatemala does not enter the "Axis of Evil" before this Sunday, you are OK.
The competition is now closed. Please look out for a more recent competition.
